Gift Ideas: Chums fishing lanyard and SWC hoodie, Polar buff

Chums Fishing Lanyard
Cool ideas for fisherman who has cutters, power pole remote, trolling motor remote all on different straps. This lanyard can hold them all pretty comfortably for under $20.00

Skinny Water Culture Hoodie:

SWC has always been known for their unique edgy artwork style on their apparel. They just recently came out with the hoodie for the winter months. It’s a 80% polyester blend with makes it great for quick drying if you get it wet and breathable. Thumb holes for slipping it into a jacket and a removable hood. I’ve been using it on the water for a few weeks so this is first hand experience not a brochure read.

Its very comfortable fit quite well. Fit and finish is excellent with double stitching and reinforced materials in all the important areas.

More specs in apparel words on the web site: Skinny Water Culture Hoodie

Here is a quick video I shot so you can see the fit. We were blown off the water(you can hear the 20knot winds even behind the mangroves) so I figure I use the time to do couple product videos.

Most people do not know this, but Buff one of the original head wear manufacturer, has what they called a “Polar Buff”

It is a made out of the popular and highly effective, award winning Polartec material.

It does not get that cold here in Florida, but on those long boat runs in winter time. The regular buff helps but just doesn’t cut out enough wind. This is where the Polar Buff shines.

I first found out about the Polar Buff a year ago in L.A. Tom of Wangachor and I was in LA last year fishing the marshes (Jan) and when the air temp is 29 degrees this was a godsend. If you often find yourself wishing for a warmer buff this time of year this is worth a look. It now comes in the Bug Slinger series of fly fishing centric design as well.

Here’s another video shot with Krista same cold windy day.

Chow low down, 717 South Restaurant in Tampa with Krista Tucker by Dale Snead

This is our first installment of new series of “Chow Low Down”. I hope you guys enjoy it.

Chow Low Down at 717 South Tampa, Florida

Wednesday brought the 3F Adventures crew ( this time tolerating me) to 717 South Howard Ave. in the SoHo district in South Tampa a long time destination for foodies of the area.

Chef Robert Masson was going to be preparing for us a seafood meal that I did not want to miss. “Chef” has been awarded numerous awards in his 9 years at 717 South and is one to think quickly on his feet. His credo is “Keep it Simple” (for a simpleton like me…well that is just fine) though “Chefs” simple is viewed through a Italian Asian fusion. An interesting twist to an interesting man, an avid fisherman and adventurer (just rolled his Jeep 4-wheelin’ that previous week).

My previous visits have included most recently the chicken picatta (served with mashed potatoes of all things – and it was good!).
The Seafood bisque (a favorite of the frequent there)was prepared and was very good. Not your traditional bisque ( a somewhat secret spice is used and once you learn what it is, you’ll go “oh yeah, that was it!” )however it was warm and creamy full of the delicate fruit of the sea.

The main course was what the crew was drooling over pistachio crusted Black Grouper ( Chilean Sea Bass is also used for this dish depending of the availability of freshness and quality) with a white wine/lobster sauce, with Portobello mushrooms and shrimp. The lightly toasted pistachios complimented well the sweet delicate, flakey fresh grouper and conversely it contrasted it in texture. The simple yet flavorful sauce brought out the true beauty of the dish. The shrimp were not tough and dry but rather just firm and tender, and sweet. We all could have eaten more of that speaking to the appreciating of the dish and not to the portion which was ample. The sides were perfectly cooked (not floppy, but with just a bit of crunch) asparagus spears and fluffy white rice that just oooozzzzzed goodness when loaded on the fork with the fish and the sauce.

Finally, with Thanksgiving just around the corner, “Chef” brought to us his now famous in our eyes “Punkin’ Cheese Cake”. Staying true to form and keeping it simple, he only used 7 ingredients if you don’t count the simple graham cracker crust.

It was both Elegant and at the same time homey, served with a dollop of whipped cream with a mint garnish. My opinion of it? Well lets just say that I plan on making that for my loved ones this Thanksgiving (although, I know mine will not be as good as “Chef’s”).

For most dinner entrees you are looking at less than $20 so the outlay to reward ratio is heavily tilted to your favor. At lunch there is a 1/2 Chef’s Daily Sandwich Special & Cup of Cupboard Soup or 717 Salad 8.95.

When ever you are in the South Tampa area or if you would like to make this a dining destination (they do accept reservations but have a well apportioned bar if you would like to “enjoy a short wait). They also have special nights with Tampa Bay area Celeb Bartenders (such as Joe Madden and various artists, musicians and other sports figures) on a regular basis for giving back to the community.

I highly recommend you go. Say “Howdy” to “Chef” and tell ‘em we sent ya!

Promo Video for the Salty Fly 2012

Another epic time lapse video by TSO photography “the water”

You know you have a passion for when you do this…

as a result I have now sold my apartment, print-studio, car and other belongings.

Follow on Facebook: facebook.com/TSOphotography for more videos, photos and updates.

This was filmed during August 2011. This is my interpretation of the fjord landscape in western Norway. Having spent countless days here, I really enjoy even the smallest parts of this landscape. Like hidden streams or dwarfish waterfalls outside of the beaten track that offer a great deal of solitude.

This movie was editing “on the road” and uploaded over 3G network from southeast asia. I have decided to spend the next two years creating a 60min blu-ray/dvd. As a landscape photographer, I have visited some really amazing places over the years, and now I will be revisiting many of them for this movie. It is a full-on project, and as a result I have now sold my apartment, print-studio, car and other belongings. I hope to be able to continue releasing a new video on vimeo every second month or so. If everything goes as planned, the next movie should be from Mountain Everest.

I thought Beethoven´s Moonlight Sonata would be appropriate, and asked my friend Marika Takeuchi if she could record it in a studio. She made a fantastic version which I love very much. Thank you!

3F Adventures video pilot project

10.31.2011

One of the projects we have been working on is called 3F adventures with our host Lauren Alvarez.

Lauren is a fun loving avid fisher woman. I met her last year while she was interning at the PTTS down in Boca grande. She has fished many tournaments and landed many tarpon since then. I figured she would be the perfect host for this show.

Watching many of the shows on the air you often see the same concept playing out. Not that our idea is 100% original, we just wanted to do something a little different with a fishing show.

For the show, 3F stands for Fishing Fun and Food. Fishing will take up 50% of the air time and the rest will be filled with fun adventures at the travel destinations and good eats.

We completed filming the first episode (Thanks goes to BLAF Apparel for sponsoring the men’s apparel) and should be ready to show in about two weeks.

We will be shooting four shows in various destination.

We shot this entire thing on literally a shoe string budget. I mean barely enough to pay for food, gas, and water for everyone involved in the project.

Currently we seeking partners in the project to offset expenses like gas and food. In exchange, our partners get exposure both embedded in show and graphics. They also and get rights to use the video to promote their products and services via their website and various media material. Materials like DVD, internet, thumb drives etc.

If you are interested in being a part of if all, shoot me over an email sam@saltyshores.com

Local Fish artist profile: Del Calhoun

10.10.2011

With the current economy Del Calhoun turned his career from an out of work construction worker to starving artist. He is not quite sure if it is for the better but he sure loves what he does.

Del carves and paints local inshore saltwater fish species of redfish, trout, snookt and tarpon. Though those are this target when he fishes the local waters of E.G.Simmons Park I saw many other species on this walls. Bass, permit, sheepshead, look downs, and rainbow trout just to name a few.

Working the local shows and sales off his website fishonart.com He tells me he’s happy making a few bucks here and there and seem very content for now. Every time I bump into Del he is always in a good mood and certainly come across as not having a care in the world.

His work is quite good, inexpensive and his fishy attitude definitely gives a person good reason to drop a couple dollars his way. I don’t think he will be earning the construction money paycheck that he once did, but for now he is content and happy. This you can not deny.
