Tarpon and Snook bite out of Stuart Florida

So this day I was at the ramp early, I mean like 5am. Our mission was to get to the spot for early season Tarpon before the sun comes up. Captain Chris Britton and his friend Evan was there with the bait of choice, crabs. We used the Mustad Big Gun 4x J-Hooks 2/O , they seem to work perfect for the small crabs and are stout and strong.

Make the run in the heavy fog was a pretty surreal. I remember thinking I’m glad I brought my jacket. Even though it is Florida that wind with the boat running makes a bite cold on the long run.

As the sun comes up the Tarpon was rolling though a bit hesitant to eat. The bite was slow but once 11am came around they started to feed. We hooked several that jumped off and even got several break offs from big snook we could not stop.

This bite lasted a for about 45 minutes then it died back down. We landed several juvi tarpon and two overslot snook for our efforts. It was a good day in Stuart Florida that day.
