Surf Expo Orlando Florida 2012, Stand up paddle board for fishing

Sure expo 2012 stats today! I am planning on visiting Friday and Saturday to see new gadgets and products. I hope to come back with some videos and photos of the event o share on Saltyshores. Willy Le is going with me to join the fun.

This brings my interest in Stand UP Paddle board fishing. There will be many SUP there at Surf. I am mainly interested in the fishing ones obviously. Besides the cool factor of stealthily catching fish in one the exercise factor is a good motivator for me as well. Fishing in a boat just doesn’t quite burn many calories.

One of the leaders in SUP made specifically for fishing is the Dragonfly SUP series. Besides floating to optimize a SUP for fishing these guys got it down. From ergonomics, tracking and minimizing hull slap they have thought about it. They are fisherman first and builders second, which makes sense.

I have not fished out of an SUP so I will be trying the ones I can get my hands one. Mainly I will be looking for ease of transport(don’t want it crazy heavy), fishability and value.

This weekend they will be at the Stuart boat show debuting a new boat but they will also have a a few SUP at surf I will check out.

As a side note, the guy being interview is the real life Forrest Gump(one of my favorite movies). His name is Jimbo Meador a child hood friend of the author of Forrest Gump book.
