How to add a weed guard to your fly on the water

You ever get on the water to find your self in unexpectedly snaggy  terrain situation? Well while on the water with my friend Brad Lowman a few weeks back we sure as heck did exactly that. We keep on loosing flies after flies fishing jungle like terrain in the river for snooks. Brad came up with a quick solution for a quick weed guard that you can make on the fly using 40lb leader material.

The basic concept is to tie a uni type knot, clinch it down on the eye of the hook. Cut off the excess and you got yourself a quick easy to tie fly guard. It won’t last as long as ones glued on to the fly but I’m sure it will do in a pinch.
