Islamorada
Haven’t had any posts in a while, it has been a really busy month for me. I have been doing some fishing but have been failing behind the lens. This past week I was in Islamorada but the weather was very poor, luckily it cleared up on Wednesday for us. My buddy Alex and I started out the morning snorkeling for Lobsters. We scored 6 with in the first couple hours. With this catch we were happy and because the weather was calm we decided to head off shore and try some trolling. While much didn’t happen trolling we did spot a couple of birds diving. As we approached the birds we saw some bait and some bigger fish crashing them. All I had available was a light tackle rod with a 2/0 circle hook on it. I quickly put on a berkley gulp shrimp and tossed it to the fish. I ended up catching a nice mahi. We actually got a double hook up which I understand isn’t uncommon with these fish. This was a first for both of us. I am over excited about it because I am always on the flats here in SW Florida and it’s really cool to tackle something else. I didn’t get any good pictures of the fish as I didn’t want to put down my rod, I was way too pumped. It was also my first try at lobstering. Even with the bad weather it still proved to be a productive trip and one I will never forget.

Event: Federation of Fly Fishers, FFF, Orlando Outfitters, Simms 2011 saltwater product
10.15.2010
Just a couple announcements for those of you that are into fly fishing. Next week there is a “Conclave” (I don’t believe I have ever used this term) in Kissimmee, Fl (near Orlando). From what I hear it’s a fly fishing show with manufactures and vendors from the fly fishing world.
Scott Swartz of Florida Fly fishing school mentioned it to me a few weeks back. Besides that I would have never heard about it so I’m gonna assume most of you have not either.
Someone really needs to market stuff like this more.

There is a another event where you can go check out the latest greatest in SIMMS saltwater gear. From what the Simms rep told me they got a totally new line of saltwater products coming out and the Simms bus will be there to show it all to you. I think it was like 60 new items specifically for saltwater.
Orlando Outfitters will also be having a big Simms Sales at the event as well as showing the new 2011 products. Plus a Simms Dry Creek Boat Bag will also be given away there.
Time Thursday night 530pm-7pm.

Google Florida BBQ Map

I don’t know about you but one of my favorite food is BBQ. Ribs, Chicken, Pulled Point and of course my favorite Briskets. I like a good dry rub BBQ. The ones with sauces all over them you can’t even taste the meat is just annoying and disappointing to me.
When I’m out of town I’m always looking for some new BBQ places to eat at. I’m kinda picky though so many places are just “ok” and I not usually go out of my way to visit them.
Today, I stumbled across this Google FL BBQ Map and thought I would share it. It doesn’t have all them but it sure has a bunch I didn’t know about.
Field and Stream, Calendar Shoot , Time lapse using the Nikon d300s
10.15.2010
You know, it’s pretty cool when a magazine that has been around forever, picks your video and post it on their website.
Check my Tarpon video out on Field and Stream.
Still working on completing the Calendar Shoot, and I put up a couple more candid shots from yesterday.
Last week while waiting the wind rain and clouds I decided to mess around with some time lapse. I set up the tripod and put the Nikon Dslr up, under the cover of course. I programed it to shoot 2 photos ever 6 seconds. It resulted in 2000 photos in the couple hours we were there. I combined all the photos together condensing the event to about 1 minute. It turned out ok. I can see using this on some other video projects I’m working on.

Every now and then I get a gig where someone sends me the footage for me to edit. This one was sent to me from Jimmy that does the TV show Extreme Fishing Adventures that airs on Brighthouse Network. You guys should see it air there this coming season.
It’s a basically a customizable surface treatment that can be done pretty much anywhere. This example is done on a fishing boat of course. It is suppose to be easy to clean and very grippy. I have not seen it person yet so I can’t really compare it to anything on a personal basis.
