Product Review: Reaction Strike

I had an opportunity to try out a few lures from Reaction Strike. This company in based in Indiana and have been in the business since 2003. They are a freshwater lure company that has been working into the saltwater scene. My good friend Daniel Lee of Lee Fishers International and Tampa Fishing Outfitters gave me a pack of a few assorted lures that they will be carrying and I thought why not write a review. Beside my brief write up I did a video as well.

PRODUCT REVIEW: Split Tail, Jr. in 4” and 5’.

Fluke* and jerkbait fishing has been around for a long time. But until the Split Tail, Jr. every other fluke/jerkbait was essentially the same bait by a different manufacturer. The Split Tail, Jr. changes all that. This bait is hollow inside, creating a much slower fall if fished with an unweighted hook. The real power of the bait is the ability to add lead in the hollow cavity. You can add a rattle too, if conditions dictate. We even have Pros adding scent, and another uses foam to enclose the cavity creating a waking jerkbait. As we said, there is no fluke or jerkbait on the market that is in the league of the Split Tail, Jr.

This bait is available in 4 or 5 inch sizes and comes in a 5 pack! Proprietary final dipping process locks eyes and paint patterns below a clear layer of soft plastic! The beautiful finish you see when you buy the lures will last until the biggest, meanest fish in your waters absolutely chomp them.

As you can see there is an assortment of color patterns that you can choose from:

Video Review of Product

Appearance = 9 out of 10

Nice detail. Eyes are cool. Appeals to the consumer with the variety of color patterns. Unique design

Durability = 7 out of 10

Due to the portion of the cavity that is empty. When inserting “objects” into the cavity it can tear if too aggressive; but can stand a few good bites. Can stretch this lure quite a bit before it breaks.

Movement = 10 of 10

Can be rapid, slow, twitched, jerked….

At 1st, when using this lure I rigged it with a 5/0 Twist lock light keeper hook by Owner.
TWISTLOCK™ LIGHT
Image
TwistLOCKT LIGHT with Centering-Pin Spring (CPS-patent pending) is a lighter version of our TwistLOCKT bass hook. With guidance from bass fishing professional and lure designer Gary Yamamoto, the TwistLOCKT Light was created as the ideal hook for rigging Senko-style baits and other thinner profile plastics. The weighted version not only helps sink or “swim” a rigged bait down into the strike zone, but helps to increase casting distance. The weight is positioned low on the shank to provide a keel” effect so that baits rigged weedless-style will swim naturally (as opposed to rolling or flipping when weights are inserted inside soft baits). The weighted version is ideal for Swimming Senkos, swimbaits, flukes and other small profile plastics. With Owner’s unique “Centering-Pin Spring” (CPS – patent pending) attached to the hook eye, baits can be “permanently” secured by inserting the pin in the center of the nose of a soft plastic, which can then be screwed onto the TwistLOCKT coil spring so that any bait will rig perfectly everytime! The “Open” gap allows for more positive hook sets. Features include a 30° eye-bend, an X-strong forged shank, Super Needle Point, and black Chrome finish.

It was not rigged weedless. I inserted a glass rattle by D.O.A.

give the lure some noise. I noticed that there was nothing from keeping the rattle from falling out, so I cut a small piece of Gulp to insert behind the rattle. This helped and also added scent. Since I have no weight to this lure, the added gulp also gave it some suspension. After casting a few times I would lose what I inserted into the cavity. Seems as the lure is in the water the cavity tends to expand a little. What I found that works is to rig this lure Texas style. It is weedless AND from the inner shank portion of the hook, this will keep your goodies inside of the cavity. I made plenty of casts without loosing anything. This was the trick.

For those of you that are looking for something fresh and like using split tails, this Reaction Strike Lure could be one to try. With the added feature of adding your “own personality” to the lure you could have fun and catch plenty of fish.
Go get you some…………… Keep it Hardcore!
