“Russian scientists have released footage of what’s believed to be the world’s only all-white adult male orca, which belongs to a small pod known to inhabit waters off Russia’s Commander Islands in the Bering Sea. The orca was named “Iceberg” because of the way its towering white dorsal fin broke the surface of the chilly waters east of the Kamchatka Peninsula.”

Celebration of the Life of Jose Wejebe to be held at IGFA

From the family of Jose Wejebe and Spanish Fly, “we are deeply saddened by the tragic event and loss of a father, son, friend. We would like to invite all family and friends to a Celebration of Life in honor of Jose Wejebe, Sunday April 15, 2012 at 1:30 PM at the International Game Fish Association Museum (IGFA) in Dania, Beach Florida. Very sad news tonight. Fishing TV show host Jose Wejebe, the spanish fly tv show was killed today in a plane crash in Everglades City Florida.
I first met Jose at friend Derek Redwine’s house in 2009. Before I met Jose, he has always been held as a mythical fishing god to me. When we met, Jose could not have been cooler. I have seen him at all major fishing event since then, most recent being at the Miami boat show at Hells Bay boatwork’s booth. Though I never had a chance to work with him, he has always been cordial and super cool to me.
Jose had one of the best fishing show on TV and was a pioneer in many aspect of it. He has inspired many generations of fisherman including everyone here at Saltyshores.
On behalf of the Saltyshores family, R.I.P. Jose, you will be missed in the fishing world.

CCA Florida – Tampa Chapter Announces Twenty-Seventh Banquet
The Tampa Chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association, leading advocate for the recreational angler, announces that their 27th Annual Fund Raising Banquet will be held on April 22, 2012 at the T. Pepin Hospitality Centre in Tampa. The event will include dinner, live auction, silent auction and raffle. A special Captain’s Table hosted by Captains Rick Murphy and Jeff Hagaman of Florida Insider Fishing Reports will be awarded to lucky attendees of the show. Auction and Raffle items include over 20 chartered fishing trips from Tampa Bay to Costa Rica to Ireland.
Notable items available for raffle or auction include fishing trips from local captains Mike Anderson, Billy Nobles, Ben Marshall, “Red Ed” Brennan and others, Custom “CCA” Golf Cart by Ron’s Golf Carts, an Emotion Stealth Kayak, Wang Anchor System, Power Pole Anchor system, Motorguide Trolling Motor, Pathfinder 2200, Hell’s Bay Waterman, Yamaha Motors, Orvis Fly rods and numerous fishing tackle, clothing ,art, and non-fishing items, including “weekend get aways’ at fabulous hotels!.
Our Tampa Bay and offshore fishery has improved immensely over the past quarter century, and CCA has been a leading voice for the resource and recreational fishermen throughout this recovery. Though much progress has been made, we need to protect out gains as well as work for additional improvements. The resource and recreational angler is challenged daily by commercial, environmental and animal rights interests. Florida is fortunate to have vast coastal fisheries as well as the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean, however, this makes Florida’s issues many and challenging.

The Biscayne Bay estuary which provides Miamians and tourist alike a miraculous salty backdrop is fighting a war regarding the dredging (600 days of structured unwater blasting!!) and extension of our seaport.
